MSG free sausages earn top marks
A Cheshire farm shop has beaten the competition by receiving top marks for their pork sausage – and to top it all, theirs is one of the few produced anywhere in the country, completely MSG free.
Cheerbrook Farm Food based in Nantwich was awarded 99 points out of a possible 100 by BPEX, for their traditional pork sausage - an outstanding result and as one judge commented, it really is a “super sausage”
Cheerbrook wanted to prove that their product could succeed over the competition without the need for MSG – the additive used by the majority of sausage producers to improve taste. In fact all Cheerbrook sausages benefit from being made without the controversial ingredient as they firmly believe the free range pork used in their product is so good there is no need meddle with its great taste.
“The majority of sausages produced in this country have MSG added” said Andrew Shufflebotham, owner of Cheerbrook Farm Food. “It has always been important to us that our meat is reared and produced as naturally as possible – without the need for such additives. With so much debate surrounding the safety of MSG, we won’t be tempted to include it”.
The pork sausage is one of the most popular meat purchases in the North West and for any butcher to receive top marks is a highly prized accolade.

St Luke’s Hospice car visits Cheerbrook
The St. Luke’s hospice ‘win a car for £1’ visited us on Friday. Volunteers Ed & Sue were delighted that we found them a spot inside out of the rain, and we were able to keep them topped up with tea & toast!
